Our Story: Best of Mowers
It was a humid Saturday morning in April 2016 when I found myself standing in the middle of a big-box hardware store parking lot, staring at a wall of lawn mowers. There were red ones. Green ones. Orange ones. Some had batteries. Some had gas tanks. Some looked like they belonged in a video game. I had no idea which one was right for my yard.
I pulled out my phone and started researching. Three hours later, I had twenty browser tabs open, conflicting advice from a dozen websites, and a headache. Every site claimed to have “the best” mower, but none of them explained why — none of them walked me through what actually mattered for my lawn.
That night, I called my brother, an equipment mechanic who had spent fifteen years fixing every brand of mower you can imagine. “If you had to pick one for your own home,” I asked, “which would it be?”
He didn’t give me a brand. He gave me a framework.
“First, measure your lawn. Then, figure out your terrain. Then, decide how much time you want to spend mowing versus maintaining the mower. Once you know those three things, the right choice becomes obvious.”
That conversation was the seed of Best of Mowers.

THE MISSION
We realized that the lawn mower industry suffers from a massive information problem. Manufacturers spend millions on marketing jargon — “TurboCut blades,” “Hydrostatic transmission,” “ION lithium technology” — but nobody sits down with homeowners and says, “Here’s what you actually need.”
We decided to change that.
Best of Mowers was founded on a simple promise: Honest reviews. Real data. No fluff.
We don’t accept payment for positive reviews. We don’t hide the flaws of expensive machines. We don’t write articles designed to sell you things you don’t need. Every guide we publish, every comparison we make, every recommendation we give is built on three pillars:
- Hands-on testing — We buy and test every mower we review
- Real-world context — We match mowers to specific yard types and budgets
- Long-term reliability data — We track performance over months, not minutes
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that the best mower isn’t the most expensive one — it’s the one that fits your yard, your schedule, and your values.
We believe that electric mowers are the future — but that gas mowers still have a place for jobs that batteries can’t yet handle.
We believe that robotic mowers will transform lawn care in the next five years the way Roomba transformed floor care.
We believe that you shouldn’t need a degree in small-engine mechanics to make a confident purchase.
And we believe that a great lawn isn’t about perfection. It’s about pride. The kind of pride that comes from pushing a well-tuned machine across your property on a Saturday morning, knowing you picked the right tool for the job.
